A Fast Start for Head Start

Cold weather often catches Floridians off guard—but for children in need, the consequences can be especially serious. When Head Start staff noticed several children arriving at school this morning in shorts and without jackets, facing a 33-degree wind chill, Kidz Closet sprang into action.

Within just 30 minutes of learning about the need, our dedicated volunteers gathered coats, gloves, hats, and warm pants for both girls and boys who found themselves unprepared for the sudden cold. Head Start serves more than 300 children across Indian River and works closely with Kidz Closet to ensure children have appropriate clothing year-round. Thanks to this rapid response, these children were able to head home warm, comfortable, and ready for the continued cold days ahead.

Kidz Closet is a nonprofit, volunteer-run organization quietly transforming lives—one shirt, one coat, one pair of shoes, and one smile at a time. We gratefully accept donations of gently used or new clothing, shoes, toys, and school supplies. Items can be dropped off at our warehouse, located at 690 4th Place, Unit 3, Vero Beach, where they are sorted and quickly distributed to children and families in need throughout our community.

If you’d like to support our mission, please consider making a donation or dropping off items at our Vero Beach location. Interested in volunteering? We’d love to have you—please complete our volunteer form and help us make a difference.
