The Treasure Coast has a New King of the Hill

Vero Beach, FL (March 27, 2025) – Orchid Island Beach and Golf Club lead tennis professional Samuel Sippel has become the king of the hill. He emerged victorious after six weeks of arduous play against some of the best players in the Treasure Coast.  The 30th Annual King of the Hill is a tennis tournament benefiting Youth Guidance Mentoring Academy, an organization that provides positive adult role models for children with limited resources in Indian River County. Since it began in 1996, the tournament has raised over $735,000 in support of the organization.

“The competition was fierce. By the final rounds, I felt like I was back in a college tournament again; definitely felt the pressure,” said Sippel.

Sippel is a newcomer to the tennis scene in the Treasure Coast. He grew up in Nuremberg, Germany, where his father began coaching him in tennis from an early age. When it came time for college, he decided to study in the United States for the opportunity to pursue both his academics and his athletic career. He played for Boise State, where he ranked Top 40 nationally in singles and Top 30 nationally in doubles. After graduating with his master’s in business administration, he combined his business and tennis expertise, which led him to become the lead tennis professional at Orchid Island.

“It was incredible to see how many Orchid Island members came out to support the event,” said Sippel. “Competing for a cause gives you a higher purpose; it feels great. You feel like you’re part of something bigger than yourself.”

The annual tournament draws hundreds of fans and supporters year after year and has become one of the signature tennis events in the Treasure Coast. To learn more about the tournament, visit youthguidanceprogram.org/events-page/king-of-the-hill/.
