Communications Manager

SUMMARY:
The Communications Manager will carry out the mission of Indian River Habitat for Humanity by assisting the Chief Development Officer in managing activities related to communications, electronic and print outreach, and community-driven fundraising in order to meet the strategic and operational goals of the organization. Responsibilities will include stewarding and managing community-driven communications, leading social media strategy and execution, managing peer-to-peer fundraising events, and crafting family partner stories through interviews, photography, and writing.

Social Media, Writing, and Communication

  • Create, write, and archive compelling cross-functional content that informs and inspires IRHFH’s audience through communication channels that include our website, newsletter, e-newsletter, and social media posts.
  • Conceive and research stories that cultivate and steward existing donors while inspiring new individuals and organizations to support Habitat’s work.
  • Help create and curate dynamic written, graphic, photography, and video content.
  • Create and send a monthly e-newsletter.
  • Assist the Chief Development Officer in developing appeals, collateral, and sponsorship opportunity communications
Events and Fundraising
  • In concert with the Chief Development Officer, lead Development’s peer-to-peer fundraising efforts (example: Women Build and Circle of Faith) to include managing the peer-to-peer platform, driving strategy, and motivating participants.
  • Participate and assist with all Development led events including wall raisings, home dedications, and fundraising events.
 Community Fundraising
  • As the primary point of contact, lead annual fundraising for communities that support IRHFH through house sponsorship, including overseeing monthly reporting for funds raised and volunteer hours (currently Grand Harbor and Orchid Island).
  • Respond to requests from community volunteer teams with the goal of maximizing their efforts and supporting their efforts.
  • Assist annual strategy with regard to print appeals, e-appeals, events, and stewardship.
  • Draft community print and electronic appeals.
  • Oversee execution of community group communication with support from other Development staff.
  • With the Chief Development Officer, develop a strategy to reengage lapsed community groups and create liaisons with new community groups.

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES
 
Experience building and sustaining relationships with volunteers, donors, and vendors
Effective written and oral communication skills
Advanced working knowledge of social media and social media analytics
Curious nature and willingness to try new ways of engaging donors and volunteers
Experience in creating compelling content that stewards and cultivates donors
Commitment to a high standard of ethics, including but not limited to maintaining a high level of confidentiality with information acquired about IRHabitat prospects, donors, and volunteers
  
PHYSICAL DEMANDS
 
The physical demands described here are representative of those that must be met by an employee to successfully perform the essential functions of this job. While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to sit for long periods of time. The employee frequently is required to stand; walk; use hands and fingers; reach with hands and arms. This position requires the ability to occasionally lift up to 25 pounds.
 
WORK ENVIRONMENT

This job primarily operates in a professional office environment and routinely requires operating standard office equipment such as computers, phones, copier, and fax machine. Occasionally works in outside conditions that can include heat, humidity, and high noise levels.
 
MINIMUM EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENTS
 
Proficiency in the use of Microsoft Office applications
Knowledge and experience in Raiser’s Edge, strongly preferred
Demonstrated experience in the engagement of volunteers
Experience in interviewing individuals and translating that interview into various forms of content
Bachelor degree preferred
 
This is a full-time, non-exempt position requiring flexibility to work evening and weekend hours as needed for homebuyer wall raisings, home dedications, meetings, and projects. The Communications Manager will likely work, on average at least five days per week, Monday through Friday (40-hour work week).
