The mission of the Environmental Learning Center (ELC), a not-for-profit 501(c)3 nature center located in Vero Beach, FL, is to educate, inspire and empower all people to be active stewards of the environment and their own well-being. Founded in 1988, the ELC annually serves ~36,000 children and adults through a variety of educational programming, professional development, family events, and numerous community partnerships. Its 64-acre campus is located on Wabasso Island surrounded by the Indian River Lagoon, an estuary of national significance, and is 1.4 miles from the Atlantic Ocean. The campus includes native plant gardens, an interactive museum including aquaria and touch tank, pontoon boat, kayaks, canoes, children’s nature play areas, welcome center, gift shop, several art galleries and multipurpose indoor spaces, outdoor picnic facilities, an event pavilion and more. ELC is a destination for locals and visitors alike and is an event venue. The ELC is seeking a high-level Finance Manager
Responsible for the overall organization finances and budgeting including accounts payable and receivable, financial statements, cash and purchases.
- Accounts Payable - Weekly invoice entry and check processing; ensure proper signatures and approvals.
- Accounts Receivable - Process deposits and send invoices when appropriate
- Budget - Create and maintain annual budget, as well as grant, event, and fundraiser budgets, ensure proper coding
- Work with development team to ensure fundraising goals are met
- Perform ROI analysis on programs and offerings
- Process payroll and manage benefits
- Supplies/Purchasing - Maintain centralized purchasing and ensure cost effective purchases. Enforce procedures for staff to request purchases.
- Grants/Restricted Funds - Ensure proper and timely use of restricted funds.
- Initiate proactive reporting and analysis of data for management and board to ensure sound decision making.
- Cross-train and backup to softwares: Little Green Light, FareHarbor, Square, Volgistics. Strong tech skills are useful.
- Establish and ensure policies and procedures for financial tasks such as gift shop inventory, cash drawer, Canoe inventory, other campus necessary inventories needed.
- Coordinate all insurance needs, etc.
- Audit/990 - Ensure timely information of audit to external auditors to ensure timely issue of audit and 990 filing.
- Ensure renewal of software, licenses, filings, and insurance
- Work with Board Chair and Treasurer as needed.
- Ideal candidate should be well-versed in accounting principles, non-profit operations, should be organized and have good people skills.
- The job is primarily Monday through Friday 8:30a-5:30p, occasional weekends and evenings for events.
Requirements:
- BA in Finance or Accounting
- Must be able to pass background check
- Must be able to learn multiple software and systems quickly (Quickbooks Online, Tableau, Excel, Google Docs, Little Green Light, FareHarbor, Square, Volgistics)
- Love of the environment and believe in the ELC Mission
Job Type: Full-time
Pay: $60,000.00 - $70,000.00 per year
