James Prosek: At Work celebrates the significant projects that define the artist’s first 30 years of artmaking. This comprehensive survey presents the remarkable breadth of his practice, from on-the-spot field studies to studio work in painting, watercolor, and sculpture. From plein air studies of the birds of Suriname to ocean fish of the Atlantic and portraits of migratory animals in the Great Plains and Rockies, Prosek chronicles subjects from the natural world with stunning realism. His work extends to insightful narratives of the lifecycles revealed by the changing seasons in his native New England; nearly encyclopedic, world-spanning investigations of eels and trout; and plants and grasses throughout different regions—together revealing an artist driven by deep observation, curiosity, and reverence for the living world. This exhibition was organized by the Morris Museum, Morristown, New Jersey, and features new interpretive texts authored by the Vero Beach Museum of Art. Support for this exhibition is provided by Barry and Jennifer Jaruzelski and the Martin Guitar Charitable Foundation.
