David J. Peter, MD, MBA, FACEP joined the Cleveland Clinic in 2014.  He started at Akron General Health System in 1994, handling documentation and reimbursement for General Emergency Medical Specialists (GEMS).  He went on to serve as Vice President for GEMS; Associate Medical Director of Hospice; Chief Medical Officer for Research; Chief Medical Information Officer; Chief Medical Officer for Care Management and Clinical Resources; and beginning in 2012, as senior vice president and Chief Medical Officer for Akron General Health System.  He remained the Chief Medical Officer for CC Akron through the acquisition and integration starting in 2014.  He joined CC Indian River Hospital in 2019 as the Chief Medical Officer.  In addition to his role as Chief Medical Officer, Dr. Peter served as the interim President at CC Indian River Hospital from January 2023 to July 2023, at which time he was appointed Hospital Chief Executive and Vice President/Chief Medical Officer for CC Indian River Hospital.

Dr. Peter received his medical degree from the University of Cincinnati Medical College, earning Alpha Omega Alpha honors, and completed his emergency medicine residency at the University of Cincinnati. He earned his MBA from the University of Massachusetts Amherst, Isenberg School of Management.

Dr. Peter was a part of Akron General Health System’s integration with Cleveland Clinic, participating in the integration process. Dr. Peter has brought this experience to his role as Chief Medical Officer for Cleveland Clinic Indian River Health System.

As the Documentation Excellence Executive Physician Champion for Cleveland Clinic Florida, Dr. Peter supports the region’s mission in ensuring providers have the tools and training needed for effective and efficient documentation.  Dr. Peter also serves as the Medical Director for Mergers & Acquisitions for Informatics assisting Cleveland Clinic Enterprise and Cleveland Clinic Florida in its Global Business Transformation and Epic EMR implementation.
