In 2008, she left her home in Dallas, TX, and moved to Tampa, FL to begin her academic career. After finishing her Master's thesis work under the UCF Marine Turtle Research Group she moved to Vero Beach, FL, and started a job with Indian River County as the Sea Turtle Environmental Specialist. After 5 years of working in County government, she am now the Founder and Executive Director of Coastal Connections, inc., a 501(c)(3) nonprofit designed to include everyone in conservation. CCinc's mission is to protect coastal habitats for sea turtle survival by educating and connecting people to the environment."

A native of the Dominican Republic, Dr. Doris A. Ferres has lived in Vero Beach since December 1990. Before moving to the United States, she had a private dental practice, and taught Clinical Dentistry in her Alma Mater. His partner, Audra Tannenholz, met in high school and live together near the airport. Audra is also an owner and sibling to brothers Sean Tuohy and Michael Devito, and sister Kimi Dziubek, all of whom also work at the restaurant. It is a truly family affair.
